WHO WE ARE
Here in Iowa, we do things differently. We do them the right way. At Iowans for Tax Relief, we produce research, educate the public, promote sound policy, and drive action rooted in Iowa values, and we win.
We believe government should live within its means. That families, not bureaucrats, know best, and that freedom grows from the ground up. But what really matters to us is making sure your voice is heard where it’s needed the most.
We’ve been working to protect taxpayers since the 1970s. Nearly 50 years of fighting for conservative limited government in Iowa. We’re not a national group with an Iowa zip code. We’re Iowans…from Burlington, Muscatine, Cedar Rapids, Riverside, and Cedar Falls… and we’re here to stay. And today, we’re taking on our biggest fight yet.
“Vote Yes on Amendment 1” is a campaign of Iowans for Tax Relief. Amendment 1 would amend the Iowa Constitution to require a two-thirds supermajority vote in both chambers of the legislature before politicians could raise the state income tax. By making it harder for politicians to reach into Iowans’ pockets, Amendment 1 protects taxpayers today and locks in that protection for future generations.
WHY AMENDMENT 1?
Right now, it takes only a bare majority for politicians in Des Moines to reach deeper into your paycheck. Amendment 1 raises the bar. If politicians want to raise your income taxes, they’ll need broad agreement — two-thirds of both chambers — to do it.
At a time when Iowans are paying more for groceries, housing, and energy, that’s a commonsense safeguard: no surprise tax hikes, no midnight votes, no simple-majority shortcuts into your wallet.
WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN
Constitutional amendments don’t pass themselves. Winning in November means reaching voters in all 99 counties, on the air, online, in the mail, and at the door. That’s what this campaign was built to do, and it’s already underway.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The amendment is on the ballot this November. Here’s what moves the needle:
Vote YES on Amendment 1 — and make a plan to vote early if you can. Tell five people: our own research shows a vast majority of voters agree that we should make tax hikes harder, they just need to hear about it!
