ITR Launches Statewide Campaign to Educate Voters on Amendment 1

New website provides resources on constitutional amendment requiring a two-
thirds vote to raise state taxes

WAUKEE, Iowa (July 22, 2026) — Iowans for Tax Relief (ITR) today launched a statewide
voter education campaign encouraging Iowans to vote YES on Amendment 1, a constitutional
amendment on the November ballot that would require a two-thirds vote of the Iowa Legislature
before state taxes could be increased.

As part of the effort, ITR unveiled www.maketaxhikesharder.com, a new online resource
designed to help Iowans learn more about Amendment 1, how it would affect taxpayers, and
why ITR believes it is an important safeguard for Iowa’s future.

“Government exists to serve taxpayers, not the other way around. Raising taxes should never
be easy,” said Chris Hagenow, president of Iowans for Tax Relief. “Amendment 1 protects
taxpayers by making it harder for politicians to raise their taxes. Every Iowan should understand
what’s at stake before casting their ballot this fall.”

Over the coming months, ITR will educate voters across the state through earned media, digital
communications, grassroots outreach, and other educational resources focused on explaining
the amendment in clear, straightforward terms.

“Iowans have made tremendous progress over the past several years by lowering taxes and
creating a stronger economy,” Hagenow said. “Amendment 1 helps protect that progress for
future generations while reinforcing the principle that taxpayers deserve thoughtful, responsible
government.”
